Scouting & External Innovation Manager (m/f/x)


As Scouting & External Innovation Manager, you will play a leadership role in WP innovation team, spearheading efforts to identify, evaluate, and secure external innovation opportunities, ranging from pre-clinical and clinical stage as well as marketed therapeutic assets, novel technologies and new modalities including medical devices and digital health solutions. These efforts will provide direct and visible benefits to WP’s pipeline and overall growth both for the near-, mid-, and long-term.

You will be a key member of the global innovation team and will be responsible for the identification and the assessment process of all external innovation opportunities consistent with WP’s strategy and Therapeutic Areas roadmap.

Additionally, you will have a critical role in ensuring that WP is considered a partner of choice for external innovation, working alongside peers in the Pharmaceutical, Consumer Health and Academic sectors.


These tasks await you


  • Contribute to the definition of WP innovation roadmap, including key areas of focus for business, technological and scientific innovation through external partnerships vs. internal R&D

  • Cultivate and expand existing networks – pharma and CHC ventures, startups, research institutes and academic communities – to source opportunities across geographies and maximize our ability to detect emerging innovations

  • Leverage open innovation events, conferences, and digital platforms to attract and capture external innovation

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams (Medical, Marketing, Product Dev., Regulatory, BD, IP) for detailed market and scientific landscape analysis, network management and continued evaluation of external opportunities

  • Operate a fast, agile and standardized process to screen opportunities and engage ad’hoc teams to assess bespoke partnering models (collaboration and access to assets/technologies, licensing, partnership, acquisition…)

  • Qualify leads and manage all stages of relationship building and contractualisation of agreements.

  • Properly transition pre-selected and actionable opportunities to corporate leadership to trigger due diligence and deal execution

  • Track and manage selected external partnerships after program initiation and manage internal transition as a program sponsor

  • Participate to continuously building and developing an innovation culture across the organization


What you bring with you


  • Minimum Master degree in Life Sciences, PhD or PharmD preferred

  • MBA or additional business-oriented degree is an asset

  • At least 5 years’ experience in the pharma/biotech industry or in related Life Sciences fields including venture capital and/or academia technology transfer

  • Experience in interacting with multiple stakeholders, universities, or companies globally

  • Significant experience in scouting, identifying, and sourcing external innovations, track record of setting-up and managing successful partnerships and collaborations

  • Proven ability to manage contractual transactions (collaboration, IP exploitation, technology access etc.) and lead scientific due diligence efforts/teams

  • Strong understanding of the therapeutic and consumer healthcare markets. Knowledge of the drug development process preferred

  • Strong analytical skills and ability to communicate complex information to a variety of scientific and non-scientific audiences

  • Fluency in English is a must, additional languages are an asset
